今回は私の故郷カンザスシティについてのエッセイになります。

Cowtown

①My hometown, Kansas City, has the nickname of Cowtown. About 150 years ago cowboys herded cattle from Texas to stockyards in Kansas City.

②The cattle were fattened up in Kansas City, then traveled to the eastern part of the US in railcars. Eventually the railroads were constructed all the way to Texas and we didn’t need cowboys anymore.

③Americans still enjoy the folklore of cowboys. People who live in Kansas City say we are still a cowtown. Kansas City also claims to be the barbeque capitol of the world.

④People all over the US argue about which region has the best barbeque. We barbeque all kinds of meat, but barbeque beef is my favorite because I’m from Cowtown.

牛はカンザスシティで肥育されて、その後、牛は鉄道車両で米国東部に連れていかれました。やがては、鉄道線路はテキサスまで建設されたので、カンザスシティのカウボーイを使う必要なくなりました。
